Château Pesquié is a family estate nestled for three generations at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the southeastern Rhône Valley. Its microclimate—the latest ripening in the southern Rhône Valley—gives the wines freshness and balance. Currently practicing organic farming, Alexandre and Frédéric are experimenting with biodynamic methods. Anecdotes from the estate: My brother and I find ourselves in the same situation as Obelix: we fell into it when we were very young… But to be honest, the winemaking profession is so complex that it certainly takes two to make one good winemaker! We are constantly listening and exchanging ideas with winemakers from Ventoux, the Rhône Valley, and other regions of France and the world. The double joy of making and loving wine is being deeply rooted in our terroir while also traveling extensively, sometimes very far! We welcome you to the estate year-round and are eager to share the treasures of our terroir with you. Whether with family or friends, for a picnic in the park or a guided tour, please don't hesitate to visit us when you're in the Ventoux region! A little history of the estate: The history of our family and that of our Appellation are closely intertwined. Our grandparents, Odette and René Bastide, took over the estate in 1971, two years before the creation of the AOC. Our parents, Paul and Edith Chaudière, began practicing sustainable agriculture in the 1980s, adopting a terroir-based selection approach that was particularly innovative at the time. Today, my brother Alexandre and I (Frédéric) are certified organic and also work biodynamically, with the aim of having the entire estate certified in the coming years. The Ventoux terroir has only just begun to reveal its secrets, and despite the 45 years that precede us, we still see ourselves as explorers! The pride of the estate: We are a family estate nestled for three generations at the foot of Mont Ventoux, in the southeastern Rhône Valley. At the exact same latitude as Châteauneuf-du-Pape but at an average altitude of 300 to 350 meters, we benefit from a cooler microclimate, the latest in the southern Rhône Valley, which gives our wines freshness and balance. Limestone is a major element of our terroir, like the summit of Mont Ventoux, our "Bald Mountain," which unfolds a lunar landscape: it underpins the elegance and minerality of our blends.
