All our winemakers in BordeauxThe Saint Emilion Grand Cru appellation produces 150,291 hl of red wines each year and benefits from a Protected Designation of Origin, which differentiates it from the Saint Emilion appellation. Indeed, it is not the geographical area that qualifies these two appellations since both are produced in the same place. To be designated as Saint Emilion Grand Cru, the yield must be limited to 40hl/ha and the maturation must be at least 12 months.
To be designated as Saint Emilion Grand Cru, the yield must be limited to 40hl/ha and the maturation must be at least 12 months. The best wines are entitled to this appellation, bottling must be carried out at the estate and the wine is tasted twice. The classification of the great growths is revised every ten years since 1855. It distinguishes two categories of vintages: the 1st Grand Cru Classé (A and B) and the Grand Cru Classé. These exceptional red wines can be kept between 5 and 20 years or more for the crus classés.
The ruby colour with garnet reflections is characteristic for young wines, while as they age the colour changes to purple. The nose is sometimes complex with notes of red berries in the first place but also vanilla, fig, prune or even flowers or roasted almonds. Once in the mouth, the aromas are also very varied. The wines are generally generous and full-bodied. The tannins are quite present on the most recent vintages and then they finally soften with maturity.
These wines go very well with red meat or gamebirds.
