La Cave des Voyageurs: one of the oldest wine bars in Lyon
Located a stone's throw from the Saône, La Cave des Voyageurs is a Lyon institution where locals and visitors alike have been flocking for almost twenty years. Here, you let yourself be guided and you taste: sometimes blind, but always with great pleasure, in a playful and hedonistic approach to wine.
Over 500 wine references at La Cave des Voyageurs
On Place Saint-Paul, directly opposite the train station, La Cave des Voyageurs has been welcoming curious visitors for almost 20 years. Step inside, squeeze under the sausages drying on the ceiling, and head towards the bar. The team will then guide your selection from over 500 wines, with a strong focus on the Burgundy - Beaujolais - Rhône Valley region, but also on wines from the South of France!
Jeannot Markarian founded La Cave des Voyageurs in 1998. "But the spirit hasn't changed," assures Lucas, the youngest member of the team: "What interests us is to awaken the curiosity of the people who visit us."
Beaujolais and fine products in the spotlight
Here, the carefully selected wines (many of which are offered by the glass every evening) reflect the playful spirit of the place: fresh and spicy Syrahs, thirst-quenching Cinsaults, fruity Pinots… “And what we love most of all is when someone comes to us asking us to help them appreciate Beaujolais!” adds Lucas.
La Cave des Voyageurs is a place where the owners are eager to surprise you and satisfy your thirst for novelty. And your appetite too: the place is also brimming with artisanal products unearthed by Jeannot. Lyon sausages, Corsican hams from the Figari region, cheeses matured in the cellar… Try "La planche selon l'humeur" (8 euros), a platter of charcuterie and seasonal products. The perfect accompaniment to the wine… without ever overshadowing it!
