La Cave des Voyageurs: One of Lyon's Oldest Wine Bars
Located just steps from the Saône River, La Cave des Voyageurs is a Lyonnaise institution where locals ('Gones') and visitors alike have flocked for nearly twenty years. Here, guests allow themselves to be guided and indulge in tastings: sometimes blind, but always with great pleasure, in an approach to.
Over 500 Wine References at La Cave des Voyageurs
On Place Saint-Paul, directly opposite the train station, La Cave des Voyageurs has been welcoming curious patrons for nearly 20 years. Step inside, weave your way past the sausages drying from the ceiling, and head towards the bar. The team will then guide your selection from over 500 references, which prominently feature wines from the Burgundy-Beaujolais-Rhône Valley axis, as well as those from Southern France!
Jeannot Markarian founded La Cave des Voyageurs in 1998. “But the spirit hasn't changed,” assures Lucas, the youngest member of the team: “What interests us is awakening the curiosity of our visitors.”
Beaujolais and Fine Products in the Spotlight
Here, the curated selections (many of which are offered by the glass each evening) reflect the playful spirit of the establishment: featuring fresh and spicy Syrahs, thirst-quenching Cinsaults, delightful Pinots… “And what we love most of all is when someone comes to us asking us to help them appreciate Beaujolais!” adds Lucas.
La Cave des Voyageurs is thus a place where the proprietors are dedicated to surprising you and satisfying your thirst for novelty. Your appetite too: the venue also abounds with artisanal products sourced by Jeannot. Lyonnaise sausages, Corsican hams from the Figari region, cheeses aged in the cellar… Be sure to try “La planche selon l’humeur” (The Mood Board) (8 euros), composed of charcuterie and seasonal products. The perfect accompaniment to wine… without ever overshadowing it!
