What to Pair with Roasted Chicken? - Food & Wine
If you are pressed for time
- For a classic roast chicken, you can choose either white or red wine:
– A Vouvray white wine, or a semi-dry white.
– A Burgundy red wine, such as a Chorey-lès-Beaune.
- Chicken salad, for example, pairs well with:
– a red wine from Chinon.
– a red wine from Languedoc.
What kind of wine goes well with chicken?
When cooked properly, chicken shouldn't be too dry. It's usually a little juicy and very tender, with a slightly smoky flavor from the skin.
Which wine should you choose?
As we’ve mentioned, here you’ll want to opt for a white wine from the Loire Valley, such as a Vouvray. If you’re going for a sweeter dish, no problem—Vouvray is perfect! Otherwise, you also have the option of a red wine with softer tannins, either because it’s young or because it’s aged. Take, for example, a Burgundy red like a Chorey-Les-Beaune. Why not a red from the Languedoc region, with plenty of fruit? Alternatively, a red from Chinon would be a great choice for this dish.
Roast chicken: a simple pleasure
Roast chicken isn’t complicated. All you need is a chicken, a side dish, an oven, and you’re all set. Just remember to baste it well while it’s cooking so it doesn’t dry out. A good roast chicken is best shared with friends or family, whether it’s a sunny weekend or a cold, rainy one. No matter what, it’s there to delight us, and we always want more!
There are plenty of recipes to mix things up from plain chicken, such as those with citrus, chestnuts, caramelized, or even stuffed. Not only does it pair well with many different sides, but you’ll also want to carefully consider which wine to serve with it.
