The village of Saint-Amour
Here, everything exudes romance. Starting with the village's name, Saint-Amour – which owes its name to a certain Amor, a Roman legionary whose statue naturally stands next to the church. Nearby, the town hall celebrates numerous marriage confirmations throughout the year. Here, restaurants are called "Au 14 février" (February 14th), "Auberge du Paradis" (Paradise Inn)... That's how well they know how to welcome lovers!
The full name of the town is Saint-Amour-Bellevue. And indeed, the view is superb. It's 20 km south of Mâcon , at the northern entrance to the Beaujolais wine route.
Discovering the Saint-Amour AOC, a Beaujolais wine
Here, we produce red wines with two different styles. Depending on whether the maceration is short or longer, we obtain light and aromatic wines that can be consumed soon after harvest, or more structured and tannic wines that can be kept for 4 to 5 years.
Tasting tips for the Saint-Amour AOC
Saint-Amour is undoubtedly the quintessential Valentine's Day wine. Proof: nearly a quarter of the production is enjoyed on February 14th . But think outside the box and consider it with autumnal dishes, such as risotto or pumpkin purée. You'll appreciate its tender and harmonious character.
