The village of Saint-Amour

Everything here exudes romance. Starting with the village’s name, Saint-Amour—which owes its name to a certain Amor, a Roman legionnaire whose statue naturally stands next to the church. Nearby, the town hall hosts numerous wedding ceremonies throughout the year. The full name of the town is Saint-Amour-Bellevue. And indeed, the view is superb. We are 20 km south of Mâcon, at the northern entrance to the Beaujolais Wine Route.

Here, we produce red wines with two distinct styles. Depending on whether the maceration period is short or longer, we obtain light, aromatic wines that can be enjoyed soon after harvest, or fuller-bodied, tannic wines that can be cellared for 4 to 5 years.

Saint-Amour is, of course, the quintessential Valentine’s Day wine. The proof: nearly a quarter of its production is enjoyed on February 14. But think outside the box and consider pairing it with fall dishes, such as risotto or mashed pumpkin. You’ll appreciate its smooth, harmonious character.
