Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: At the Gateway to Verdon (video)
After exploring the area around the village of Pierrevert and along the Durance River in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Laetitia Allemand takes us today to the gateway to the Verdon, where we’ll gain some elevation for a moment to experience the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence at high altitude and in all its glory.
At the gateway to the Verdon
Welcome! Today, Laetitia Allemand invites us to take a moment to look out over the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence from high up in the mountains, surrounded by nature!… We’re here in the town of Quinson, at the gateway to the Verdon Regional Nature Park, at an elevation of over 400 meters.

Just as in Pierrevert or along the Durance River, most of the vineyards here are farmed organically, and the winemakers are particularly committed to environmental conservation. The vineyards stand alongside fields of lavender, offering walkers magnificent views. With annual sunshine well above the national average, the grapes ripen under excellent conditions.
Quinson wines are certified under the Pierrevert AOP and Alpes de Haute-Provence IGP designations. They also bear the Verdon Natural Park label.
The winery produces reds, whites, and—above all— rosés. The rosés are crisp and full-bodied… The high altitude tempers the southern influences and gives them a lovely freshness.
I recommend serving them with grilled meats from the barbecue, but also with certain cheeses like Banon goat cheese, a local specialty!
