Domaine Plageoles

Duras 2020

Gaillac | Rouge | 2020

This wine is made from the Duras grape variety, native to the Tarn region, and is a benchmark for the Gaillac appellation. Grown on clay-limestone soil at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare, it is harvested by hand. Vinification takes place in concrete tanks using indigenous yeasts, followed by a short vatting period and minimal extraction to preserve the fruit’s finesse. Aging for one year in concrete tanks, followed by an additional year in the bottle, refines its structure and depth.

Our Review of the Cuvée

On the nose, this wine reveals subtle aromas of slightly spicy red fruits, accented by a delicate floral note. On the palate, its fine, taut texture offers a lovely freshness, amplified by mineral notes derived from its clay-limestone terroir. Vinification in concrete tanks and aging in cement tanks give it a beautiful balance between finesse and complexity. Its tannins are silky, and its long, precise finish leaves an impression of pure elegance and authenticity unique to this region.

Domaine Plageoles

Domaine Plageoles

Languedoc | France

For several generations, Domaine Plageoles in Gaillac has been dedicated to promoting the indigenous grape varieties of the Gaillac vineyard, including Mauzac, Ondenc, Prunelart, and Duras. This foundational work aims to preserve an ancient varietal heritage, closely linked to the plateau's soils and climate.

Each cuvée explores a different facet of these grape varieties, with profiles ranging from ethereal registers to more structured expressions, always rooted in their origin. The white wines are distinguished by their clean persistence and fine bitterness that extends the finish, while the reds exhibit granular tannins, characteristic of the local varieties.

The vinification processes favor a refined approach, with maturation conducted gently to avoid masking the grapes' inherent expression. The estate's overall work offers a clear and faithful interpretation of the Gaillac vineyard, providing a precise understanding of its historical identity and diversity
