Cuvée du Couvent 2020

Madiran | Rouge | 2020

This wine, made entirely from the Tannat grape variety, reflects a commitment to sustainable viticulture, certified as organic. The vines are planted at high density on clay-limestone soil, benefiting from a south-southeast exposure. Hand-harvesting and various techniques, such as destemming and punching down in cement tanks, followed by a long fermentation, ensure the wine’s complex structure. Aging in new oak barrels followed by stainless steel tanks contributes to its refined texture.

Our Review of the Cuvée

This wine stands out from the very first whiff with its remarkable aromatic intensity, where the depth of black fruit is balanced by subtle notes of sweet spices. On the palate, the tasting reveals a masterful harmony between a silky texture and a structure that gives the wine its backbone. The exceptionally refined tannins highlight meticulous soil management and precise winemaking. This is a deep and elegant cuvée, whose lingering finish will perfectly complement distinctive cuisine.

Domaine Capmartin

Domaine Capmartin

South-West | France

Within the Madiran appellation, Domaine Capmartin is dedicated to offering a renewed interpretation of Tannat, the emblematic grape variety of Southwest France. The work carried out in the vineyard and cellar aims to preserve the grape's natural structure while softening its expression through measured technical choices.

Winemaking processes prioritize moderate extractions and a judicious use of oak, allowing for enhanced wine aeration. This approach yields red wines with a prominent tannic structure that unfolds with greater suppleness and fluidity. The fruit gains clarity, textures achieve balance, and the finishes remain remarkably digestible.

The entire range of cuvées offers a modern and coherent interpretation of Madiran, focusing on freshness, clarity, and the wines' evolution, while preserving the identity of both the terroir and the grape variety.
