What to drink at Christmas around the world?

You thought the whole world was on champagne at Christmas? Not at all... Each country has its own specialities. We made a small tour of the world of typical Christmas drinks, come with us!

Vodka in Russia

In Russia, Christmas is celebrated with vodka! Over there, it's the dishes that go with it, and not the other way around. Real Russian vodka is drunk like whey (in moderation of course): it warms up without burning the throat, and is always drunk in a small glass, bottoms up!

Eggnog in Canada

In Canada, the Christmas drink is eggnog. If it sounds all sweet like that, it's actually a cocktail made with milk, eggs and... rum! A creamy drink that warms up, so popular that Americans drink it from Thanksgiving to New Year's Eve. And even in an iced version when it gets too hot in the summer.

Champagne in France

In France, no Christmas meal without champagne! The pop of the cork is always synonymous with festivities and great occasions. And then, these small fine bubbles marry (almost) with everything. But before December 25th, the drink you can find on all Christmas markets is mulled wine. A drink simmered with wine, cinnamon, oranges and lemon pieces.

Hot Irish Whiskey in Ireland

Unsurprisingly, the Irish have opted for Hot Irish Whiskey to celebrate Christmas. This delicious cocktail is made with spices, hot whiskey and brown sugar. The little bonus, it's a really effective cold remedy!

Hot cider in Mexico

At Christmas, it's an apple cocktail that the Mexicans sip. Not too much change of scenery, we take the same ingredients as for a mulled wine, but with cider. Spices, oranges, cinnamon sticks, and we enjoy it!

But whichever drink you choose, have a very merry (and very gourmet) Christmas!
