What to Drink with Strawberries? - Food & Wine Pairings
If you are pressed for time
- A sweet red wine: such as a Maury.
- A sparkling rosé wine: a rosé Champagne.
- A rosé wine: rosés from Anjou.
Which strawberry characteristics are best suited for which wine?
Strawberries are a fairly sweet fruit. Their flavor does have a slight tang to it, however, which is something to keep in mind when pairing them with wine.
A berry that brings joy
The wild strawberry, a miraculous berry that has long been cultivated in Europe and North America, is universally loved. The Romans were already quite fond of this “false fruit,” picking or growing it depending on the region. The season, which begins in spring, allows us to enjoy this delight of nature in many forms: as a tartlet, ice cream, or sorbet, plain or even with chocolate. Everyone has their favorite recipe, but there’s something for everyone. Let’s not forget that the strawberry is the French people’s favorite fruit, as roughly one in two people will tell you how much they love it. In France, we have our famous Gariguettes de Plougastel and Marat des Bois, as well as PGI-certified varieties like the Fraise du Périgord, and the Label Rouge-certified Fraise du Lot-et-Garonne.
