Everything You Need to Know About Château de La Guerche

Located inSaint-Aubin-de-Luigné, in the heart of Anjou, Château de La Guerche is a historic estate in the Loire Valley whose origins date back to the 18th century. Surrounded by schist-rich hillsides overlooking the Layon River, the estate enjoys a privileged setting where oceanic influences and diverse soil types allow for the production of wines that are fresh, elegant, and deeply influenced by their terroir.

The vineyard stretches across hillsides composed mainly of schist, sandstone, and volcanic rock—soils particularly well-suited to the iconic grape varieties of Anjou. Chenin Blanc, the region’s true hallmark, expresses its full finesse here, producing crisp, mineral-driven white wines with excellent aging potential. As for the reds, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon produce rich, indulgent wines with silky tannins and aromas of red fruit and spices.

Château de La Guerche cultivates its vineyards with respect for the environment, prioritizing sustainable viticulture and carefully tending each plot to preserve biodiversity and bring out the full character of the terroirs. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, and winemaking is carried out with minimal intervention to preserve the purity of the fruit and the identity of each vintage.

The estate produces a wide range of wines representative of the Loire Valley appellations, including Anjou Blanc, Anjou Rouge, Anjou Villages, Rosé de Loire, and Cabernet d'Anjou, as well as wines from the Coteaux du Layon appellation, renowned for its great sweet wines made from Chenin Blanc. Each wine strives to achieve a balance between freshness, richness, and an expression of the terroir.

Today, Château de La Guerche ranks among the finest estates in Anjou, offering accessible, refined, and elegant wines. Its expertise, combined with the richness of the Loire Valley’s terroirs, allows the estate to produce wines that are equally suited to casual gatherings and gourmet dining, while reflecting the authentic character of the great wines of the Loire Valley.
