La Marginale 2021

Saumur-Champigny | Red | 2021

This Cabernet Franc comes from carefully cultivated vines grown on clay-limestone soil. Ideally situated facing due south, the vines benefit from exceptional ripeness. Meticulous vinification in wooden vats and aging in large oak casks for 12 months allows for the extraction and preservation of the wine's aromatic richness, thus accentuating the intensity and precision of its flavors. Natural ground cover and soil cultivation aerate the vines and preserve the richness of the terroir.

Our opinion on the vintage

The brilliant ruby robe precedes a complex nose with nuances of fresh mint and star anise, mingled with seductive notes of red fruit and exotic spices such as vanilla and Sichuan pepper. On the palate, the attack is clean, revealing a generous fruitiness distinguished by its harmonious balance. The perfectly integrated acidity enhances the wine's elegant structure. The long and precise finish confirms the signature of an exceptional terroir. This wine will pair wonderfully with rich dishes such as pork chop or rack of lamb.

Domaine Des Roches Neuves

In Saumur-Champigny, the Domaine des Roches Neuves has been run by Thierry Germain since 1992. The estate extends over limestone and clay-limestone terroirs, particularly suited to cabernet franc, as well as chenin for white wines.

Starting in 2002, the estate embraced biodynamic farming, with in-depth work on the soils, vine vitality, and yield control. This approach aims to produce balanced grapes, capable of accurately expressing their origin without artifice in the cellar. Vinification prioritizes measured extractions and a focus on the body of the wine to preserve the fruit and the natural energy of the juice.

The winemaking process is conceived as a complementary tool, chosen to respect the wine's structure and its capacity for expression, without seeking to influence the style. The wines are distinguished by their purity of fruit, their precision, and a sense of controlled tension, while retaining genuine depth.
