Domaine du Clos Gautier
Domaine du Clos Gautier
Anecdotes from the Estate: Winemaking has been practiced in our world since the dawn of time. Being a winemaker means participating in this long chain passed down from generation to generation. It also brings to mind the memory of a remarkable Bordeaux oenologist, Georges Pauli, who introduced me to some truly great wines 25 years ago and who remains, for me, a model of the connection between terroir, great wines, and consumers worldwide. Promoting our wines globally is also a strong ambition that we want to share. Our wines reflect our terroir, and we are committed to pushing this principle as far as possible. The diversity that exists in the world of wine, with so many different flavors, colors, and aromas, is remarkable. It's a shame that those who trade in wine sometimes don't begin their work by tasting it: this would lead to fewer disappointments for consumers and better recognition for the work of those who create beautiful wines. Our Cellar Master: "Our wines are inevitably different from others; each terroir (in the broadest sense), each plot of vines has its own history, its own geology, its own microclimate. The age of the vines means that the roots draw different mineral salts from one year to the next, depending on their growth. Our wines have a strong link with their terroir and the personality of the owner, which creates an identity. A wine is alive, it tells a story, a story of a place, and has its own authenticity." The story of the estate: We want to write the history of the estate first and foremost for others: the lovers of our wines, future generations, hoping that the estate will now be passed down from generation to generation. And this begins with the journey towards HVE (High Environmental Value). Since 2013, we have been preparing for this by eliminating all treatments with synthetic products after flowering, by using mechanical weed control, and by adding natural amendments to revitalize the biological life of our soils; And in 2020, we achieved the ultimate recognition with the awarding of that coveted accolade: Level 3 HVE Certification. Following on from these efforts, we then embarked on a conversion to organic farming. But we want this story to be modern: a strong connection between town and country, embodied in bottle designs aimed at new generations and new ways of enjoying rosé. The pride of the estate: The Domaine was born from the desire of its founder, and previous owner in 2003, to leave all his businesses behind and embark on this incredible adventure. In 2011, the current owner, Mr. Pedini, fell in love with the estate and its wines and is eager to share this passion with as many people as possible by developing the estate. He relies on a new team led by Paul Zussini, an Operations Director with remarkable credentials, and on Christophe Bernard, the new consulting oenologist whose success over the last 20 years in producing top-tier Provence rosés speaks for itself. A new leap in quality will propel the Domaine to the forefront of the appellation. Domaine Clos Gautier is planted on Triassic soils, characterized by a patchwork of acidic and calcareous soils, sometimes even within the same plot. The Domaine is divided into four distinct parcels, resulting in a true complexity and a wide variety of aromas from one plot to the next. For several years now, we have been dedicated to restoring the microbiological activity of our soils. This includes organic amendments every winter, soil loosening, and mechanical weeding. After flowering, the vineyard is protected with products approved for organic farming, and the two previous treatments are adapted to the development of the vegetation. Our AOP vineyards are primarily located on hillsides, at the highest point of Carcès. Benefiting from excellent sun exposure and natural drainage, these vines express the full complexity of our terroir. The clay subsoil keeps the roots cool, allowing for consistent grape ripening without water stress. Domaine Clos Gautier has also been recognized for its numerous environmental initiatives undertaken over several years, achieving HVE3 certification in 2020 and switching to renewable energy (100% of the electricity consumed comes from renewable sources). Currently, the estate is in conversion to organic farming.
