Vignobles Pelvillain
Vignobles Pelvillain is a family-run estate located in Albas, in the Lot valley, the historical heart of the Cahors vineyard. The family's viticultural origins date back to the 19th century, and the grandparents of the current generation passed down land and vines to their daughter in 1968, which enabled the family vineyard to develop during the resurgence of Cahors wine. The subsequent generation, comprising brothers Arnaud, Didier, and Francis Pelvillain, took over after 1993, then acquired Domaine du Théron in Prayssac in 2013, bringing the total area to approximately 50 hectares. A négociant business was established in 2016, further expanded by the addition of Château Cayrouses in 2022.
The estate spans several terroirs around Albas and Prayssac, where the soils range from limestone and clay to gravel and sand, offering a rich diversity for the vines. Production is primarily focused on the Cahors appellation (Malbec or Côt grape variety) and wines under the Côtes du Lot PGI, including reds made mainly from Malbec, as well as a few whites made from Gros Manseng or Chardonnay, depending on the vintage. Vineyard management and winemaking aim to balance respect for the soil with grape quality, with certain viticultural practices carried out using an environmentally friendly approach, certified as High Environmental Value (HVE3) on certain plots.
The wines from Vignobles Pelvillain reflect the characteristics of the Lot region’s terroirs, featuring structured, aromatic reds and expressive whites. The estate has several modern cellars for winemaking and aging, as well as tasting and retail spaces in Albas, which are open by appointment.
