Tout savoir sur Vins du Monde

Discovering foreign wines

Foreign wines hold a special place in our selection. They allow us to broaden our horizons, discover other grape varieties, other climates, and other winemaking methods. From the Mediterranean basin to high-altitude vineyards, from Atlantic regions to continental areas, these wines offer a wide diversity of styles and expressions.

At Les Grappes, foreign wines are selected with the same exacting standards as French wines: attention is paid to the terroir, the work of the winemaker and the readability of the wine in the glass.

A wide diversity of countries and regions

The selection covers many recognized wine-producing countries, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Greece, Georgia, Lebanon, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and Japan.

Each country has its own iconic regions:
Piedmont, Tuscany, Sicily, Rioja, Priorat, Douro, Alentejo, Moselle, Rheinhessen, Burgenland, Tokaj, Kakheti, Uco Valley, Maipo, McLaren Vale, Santorini, Bekaa Valley…
These are all areas with strong identities, linked to their geography, climate and winemaking history.

Grape varieties and wine styles

Foreign wines offer the opportunity to discover a wide variety of grape varieties, some of which are not widely grown in France, or which express themselves differently depending on their terroir. These include both international grape varieties and highly distinctive local varieties.

The selection includes:

  • structured or more supple red wines

  • dry, aromatic, mineral or richer white wines

  • rosé wines

  • sparkling wines

  • sweet, fortified or oxidative wines (Port, Madeira, Sherry, Montilla-Moriles, Tokaj, etc.)

Some wines come from recognized appellations, others are deliberately classified outside of appellation in order to give more freedom to the winemakers.

Various approaches to viticulture

The selected estates operate according to a wide range of philosophies: sustainable agriculture, organic farming, biodynamic farming, natural wines, or more traditional approaches. This diversity reflects the richness of the international wine world and allows us to offer both accessible wines and more sophisticated vintages.

Many of these wines offer excellent value for money , while bringing a real uniqueness compared to French profiles.

Food and wine pairings

Foreign wines are often very versatile at the table.
Red wines pair well with grilled meats, stews, and spicy cuisine.
White wines pair well with fish, seafood, vegetables, cheeses or international cuisine.
Sweet and fortified wines naturally find their place as an aperitif, with desserts or in sweet and savory pairings.

An open and evolving selection

The "Foreign Wines" category includes both renowned estates and more niche producers, with a deliberately broad selection in terms of countries, appellations, and styles. It is regularly updated with new discoveries and vintages.

These wines allow you to explore the world's vineyards without leaving your table, remaining true to a coherent, legible and pleasure-oriented selection.
