Saint-Chinian | Rouge | 2023

Located in the heart of the Saint Chinian-Berlou appellation, this wine is the result of an agroecological approach on hard schist soils where the winds promote the ripening of the grapes. With high planting density and controlled yields, each grape variety—Syrah, Lledoner Pelut, Mourvèdre, and Carignan—is vinified together in stainless steel tanks. This method allows for careful fermentation with regular destemming and punching down, followed by 12 months of aging in barrels, resulting in a complex and well-structured wine.

Our Review of the Cuvée

This wine presents a dark color, a deep garnet with violet hues. On the nose, the bouquet is powerful, blending notes of candied black fruits, bay leaf, dark chocolate, and toasted bread. On the palate, the attack is vigorous and fresh, supported by a rich, pulpy texture. The aromas are enhanced by notes of menthol and eucalyptus, delivering a mouth-watering freshness. The finish is marked by a chalky sensation, balanced by an explosion of flavors ranging from jammy black cherry to mocha and cocoa, creating a generous and unforgettable sensory experience.

These cuvées exhibit an instinctive harmony, as if the diverse grape varieties of Minervois willingly coexist. Carignan, Grenache, Cinsault: each contributes a nuance without dominating. The rarer white wines are particularly surprising. The vinifications are straightforward, occasionally a bit rustic, yet the overall expression maintains genuine sincerity. In short: excellent drinkability.
