Vieilles Vignes 2022

Cornas | Rouge | 2022

This organic wine is produced from old vines, over 60 years old, deeply rooted in sun-drenched, degraded granite slopes, characteristic of the appellation. Cultivated as Syrah on stakes (échalas), harvesting is done manually to preserve the optimal quality of the grape clusters, with careful vinification involving partial destemming. Fermentation utilizes indigenous yeasts, and aging continues for 20 months in barrels, ensuring complexity and finesse with a remarkable aging potential.

Our Review of the Cuvée

This Cornas presents an enchanting aromatic profile. On the nose, wafts of leather and black pepper intermingle with notes of ripe dark fruits, revealing the authentic richness of Syrah. On the palate, its velvety texture envelops the mouth, with elegant and well-integrated tannins. A beautiful persistence unveils spicy and mineral nuances, evocative of its granitic terroir. This wine is the ideal companion for a 'lièvre à la royale' (royal hare), where its depth and nuances will elevate each seasoned dish.

In Cornas, Alain Voge has sculpted a vision of Syrah that combines firmness and precision. The old vines yield a dense, at times opaque, juice, yet sustained by remarkable tension. The Saint-Péray whites exhibit a serene amplitude. In short: controlled depth.
