It is in the North-East of Saint-Emilion that Montagne-Saint-Emilion wines are produced. The multitude of farms and the diversity of the soils (clayey-limestone and gravelly) is the source of the richness of this appellation. The grape varieties used are exclusively Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Depending on their geographical origin, wines, red only, may be more robust or finer.
Covering 1,600 hectares of land, this municipality is the largest in the region and produces 75,000 hectolitres annually.
Montagne-Saint-Emilion has a ruby colour that draws on dark garnet. On the nose, you will find many flavours such as blackcurrant, pepper or game. Once on the palate, it is distinguished by its complexity and typical fullness and will reveal spicy aromas. Powerful tannins and a potential for aging between 5 and 10 years finish characterizing it.
