"Our approach to organic farming is not a passing fad."
Louis XIV wasn't even born when the Fabre family began producing wine. Since then, wine has flowed under the bridges of Corbières . Today, Claire and Louis Fabre open the doors of Château de Luc to us.
The Fabre family, a historical passion spanning 15 generations
It's a true family tradition. My parents were winemakers in the Minervois , and Louis's parents were winemakers in the Corbières . At Château de Luc, we share a historical passion that dates back to 1605 and has existed for 15 generations. Today, it is passed down in turn by the father and grandfather Fabre. Each generation adds its own contribution!
The vineyards of Château de Luc are organically farmed.
This year, we are proud to have given our vines exceptional care, validated by achieving Level 3 of the High Environmental Value (HVE) certification . For example, we sow flowering strips of legumes every 10 rows of vines to promote ecosystem balance and biodiversity. In 2014, we obtained the Organic Wine label for all our wines. Our approach is not a passing fad; it dates back to the early 1990s . We are committed to preserving the environment, out of respect for the consumer and future generations.
Confidences from Claire & Louis Fabre, winemakers at Château de Luc
Our favorite wine: a Château de Luc, of course , because it represents our history, the very essence of our family, our relationship, our children, and our values. Louis and I took on the incredible challenge of restoring this estate and château, raising our five children, and nurturing our wine! It's the wine that tells our family's story.
Our favorite time of year is autumn, for the harvest . It's both a source of anxiety and joy because we've worked all year for this final result. I also particularly love this time of year because it offers us a palette of colors and wonderfully mild weather. It's pure bliss!
We truly value relationships with our clients and visitors : it is a joy to share our daily work and the history of our castle, the richness of its stones and the people who have worked over the years to make it all possible, to share our story with enthusiasts and curious people from all walks of life!
If we were to share a little anecdote with you, it would be the story of a truly memorable experience. We visited several villages and their schools to plant trees with the children. It was a wonderful moment and a truly worthwhile endeavor. The children gained a deeper understanding of the importance of nature. We're doing it again next year, this time with fruit trees, which the children will care for and will be able to enjoy the fruit on when the time comes!
However, there is one thing that we find unbearable in the wine world… It's the producer groups initially created to help them, but which, unfortunately, are now harming them through price and market wars. Many winegrowers in the region have uprooted their vines because they found themselves unable to make their production profitable. This is historical, economic, and ecological damage, particularly to the garrigue landscape.
