Domaine de la Bonne Tonne
Located in Morgon, within the iconic Côte du Py sector, Domaine de la Bonne Tonne is a family estate whose current structure has been built over generations. The vineyard results from the assembly of plots from parental and grandparental holdings, complemented by family-owned vines, today forming a coherent whole rooted in Morgon's finest hillsides.
The estate operates under organic farming practices, having obtained certification in 2003. Viticulture emphasizes an autonomous approach, mindful of the vine's natural balance, aiming for optimal ripeness and controlled yields. Parcel-by-parcel cultivation allows for a nuanced expression of the geological diversity of the area, a key characteristic of Morgon.
- The vineyards are spread across several distinct lieux-dits (named plots).
- Les Charmes, with its granitic soils, yields wines that are softer, fruitier, and more approachable.
- Grand Cras adds more structure and depth, while retaining a distinct fruity character.
Côte du Py, grown on schist and volcanic soils, is the estate’s most defining vineyard, producing full-bodied wines with aging potential.
The estate also produces a white Beaujolais, designed to be fresh and immediately enjoyable.
In the cellar, winemaking practices aim to preserve the grapes’ identity without overdoing it with technical interventions. Extraction is kept to a minimum to ensure supple, silky tannins, and aging is handled in a way that complements the wines without masking their origins. The estate’s style emphasizes rounded balance, a clear structure, and a direct expression of the terroir.
The Domaine de la Bonne Tonne thus offers a sincere and nuanced interpretation of Morgon, where each plot finds its place and its own unique expression. These are structured yet approachable wines, deeply rooted in the Côte du Py and the geological diversity of the appellation.
