The Filmmakers' Bistro: a haven for film buffs and wine lovers
At the foot of Montmartre, a stone's throw from Place de Clichy, the Bistrot des Cinéastes is a haven for film buffs and wine lovers alike. Let's face it, the combination of wine, food, and cinema often promises a delightful evening. If you agree, then the Cinéma des Cinéastes is the place for you! Discover this unique spot.
Do you know where the Bistrot des Cinéastes comes from?
At Father Lathuille's house, Edouard Manet
Its past is quite eventful! In the 19th century, the Lathuille cabaret and open-air café was in full swing. This inspiring place welcomed some of the greatest artists, such as the painter Manet, who painted a canvas there.
In 1906, the Cabaret became a café-concert, showcasing the voices of great singers like Maurice Chevallier. It wasn't until 1996 that the Cinéma de Cinéastes (Filmmakers' Cinema) was inaugurated, with Fanny Ardant as its godmother!
The Filmmakers' Cinema, a haven for film buffs
Behind its hipster and trendy facade, Le Cinéma des Cinéastes is developing as a showcase for world cinema. It's a place for meetings, previews, and other special evenings with the directors in attendance!
The Cinéma des Cinéastes has a program of art-house films. No, these aren't slow, Chinese films with Polish subtitles. They're lesser-known films that deserve attention because they deliver the most cinematic punch!
Forget about American blockbusters and coke for an evening, and discover this cultural gem that makes you want to chat over a drink after the screening.
The “Wine, meal and cinema” combo
This cinema has a unique feature: no popcorn at the entrance, but wine at the exit! Imagine: you leave the cinema, settle into the bistro with your friends, and discuss the film over a delicious charcuterie board followed by a good bottle of wine!
What do we eat at the Bistrot des Cinéastes?
The real originality lies in the names of the dishes! Each dish is associated with a film, and the menu changes every season. With Marcel Pagnol's * The Baker's Wife* , enjoy a platter of mountain sausages. With Yves Robert's *Alexandre le bienheureux *, savor duck foie gras with four spices… Here's a delicious way to brush up on your film knowledge!
What do we drink at the Filmmakers' Bistro?
The Bistrot des Cinéastes boasts a well-stocked wine list, featuring excellent selections sourced from a wine merchant on Boulevard Beaumarchais. Several independent winemakers are showcased, such as Château Ricardelel with its Alancade 2012, a Mediterranean red wine with lovely spicy notes, hints of menthol and licorice.
Our personal favorite is the 2012 Sancerre Blanc from Domaine Jean Paul Picard, a fresh and very mineral wine, perfect with goat cheese!
We asked Jérôme, the bartender, what his favorite wine was:
Jérôme, the bartender, and Charlotte
Jérôme: “It’s the Viognier Vérité! A white wine from the region by Laurent Miquel.”
Fruits we made: Why do you love it so much? To have a good evening and discuss a film?
Jérôme: Yes, but mainly because it's a very fresh wine that goes down very well after a long service! (laughs)
Now that you know all this, what are you waiting for to fill your belly and your mind? 🙂
