What to Drink with Steak Haché and Fries?
The ultimate comfort food that everyone loves or has loved: hamburger steak and fries. Hamburger steak and fries are the very embodiment of simple pleasure! So pairing them with a good glass of wine every now and then can take the experience to new heights.
Making a hamburger starts with a trip to the butcher, because let’s face it, a fresh hamburger every now and then really lets you savor authentic flavors. Place the meat in a very hot skillet, then season the side that isn’t cooking with salt and pepper. Then flip the meat. By then, the salt and pepper will have had plenty of time to soak in!
When it comes to red meat, it often comes down to the same thing: many red wines can pair well with it. So we’ve deliberately kept our selection limited to avoid ending up with endless lists of wines recommended for a hamburger and fries.
What wine goes well with a hamburger?
The "classics":
- A Bordeaux Supérieur
- A Côte de Bourg from Bordeaux
- A Côte-de-Blaye from Bordeaux
- A Haut-Médoc from Bordeaux
The "less conventional" ones:
- A Saumur-Champigny from the Loire
- A Morgon from Beaujolais
- A Brouilly from the Beaujolais region
- A Burgundy Pinot Noir
- An Alsace Pinot Noir
- An Anjou-Villages de Loire
- A Chinon from the Loire Valley
- A Sancerre from the Loire
Ground beef pairs exceptionally well with grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, or Merlot, which are grown in these regions. Their woody and vanilla-like flavors possess a certain aromatic freshness with subtle spicy notes and are perfect for a more “classic” red meat. When well-crafted, the Gamay grape can be a good alternative, as is the case with a Morgon or a Brouilly.
Enjoy your steak and fries!
