Discover the Andes and Argentinian wines - World Wine Tourism
The wine route in Argentina stretches along the Andes Mountains for over 2,000 km. A dream playground for lovers of the region's grape varieties. From Malbec to Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, Argentinian wines are every bit as good as their French counterparts. The Argentina & Patagonia travel agency Argentina Excepción gives you a taste of your next wine tasting in Latin America!
From Salta to La Rioja: Argentina, the motherland of the torrontés
Argentina is well known for its characterful Malbec, to the detriment of some of its other wines, particularly its whites. And yet: what a wonderful discovery Torrontés is! This grape variety now exists only in the Cafayate region, south of Salta. It's a very fruity wine with an intense aroma, similar to Gewürztraminer.

The other distinctive feature of this region is its altitude: some vineyards are planted at 3,000 m altitude : they are quite simply the highest in the world!
The central region of the wine route in Argentina: between San Juan and Mendoza
The province of Mendoza is one of the eight wine capitals of the world listed by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network and accounts for 70% of the country's wine production. It enjoys a dry, sunny Mediterranean climate, which explains the quality of the region's wines. The significant temperature variations create particularly intense wines. It is here that you can taste the best Malbec in the country, as well as very high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon. Wineries abound along the roadside. We highly recommend visiting a few to participate in tastings that will allow you to better understand the character of Argentine grape varieties.
The San Juan region is known for its Syrah: a deeply colored wine, rich in tannins, with aromas of spice and red fruit. It is found particularly in the Tulum Valley, where the sandy-clay soils make it exceptionally fertile for this grape variety.
Neuquén and the Rio Negro Valley: truly unique vintages in Patagonia
The vineyards of Patagonia are the southernmost in the world. Cold nights follow sunny days, and this significant temperature difference experienced by the vines gives rise to some truly unique wines. Indeed, the wines of this region are more intense, more acidic, and less full-bodied. In Neuquén, you'll find the newest wineries in Argentina, equipped with the best winemaking technology in the world. It's promising! Pinot Noir has adapted particularly well to the harsh climate of the south of the country; we highly recommend you try it.
