Nîmes is a charming city, world-famous for the majesty and exceptional conservation of its Roman monuments.
The history of Nîmes
Nîmes has a very rich history. Created more than 2000 years ago, it was one of the most important colonies in the Roman world. The city of Nîmes was built in a remarkable way with and around its Roman monuments. It is this ancient architecture, declined over the centuries, that has given the city its identity, its personality, its singularity, giving it an exceptional universal value.
The city evokes the image of the Roman city by excellence, as much by the richness of its monuments inherited from Antiquity, as by the originality of its urban fabric which has integrated them harmoniously over time. Nîmes reached its apogee during the reign of Emperor Augustus. It is from this period that the city's famous Roman monuments date back, among the most beautiful and best preserved of the former empire are the bullring and the square house.
But that's not all, Nîmes is also known for its AOC Costières-de-Nîmes. It is renowned for its fresh, elegant and modern wines. The Costières vineyard is located south of the city of Nîmes and north of the Petite Camargue, with its remarkable wetlands.

Nîmes is the link between the vineyards of the Rhône and those of the Languedoc.
Since the middle of the 20th century, the Bortolussi family has owned this vineyard, which consists of 25 hectares of vines classified as PDO Madiran and Pacherenc du Vic Bilh. It produces wines that are both concentrated and fine, with a wonderful palate feel, while fully respecting the fruit.
Knowing your terroir, listening to the vines, not resigning yourself to following practices without questioning yourself... this long-standing commitment for the Bortolussi family was rewarded in 2018 by obtaining the High Environmental Value certification.
Our domain is located in Sernhac, near the Pont du Gard. Vineyard of the Rhone Valley, we produce AOP Costières de Nîmes and IGP Pont du Gard. It extends over about 20 hectares around our cellar. We are certified High Environmental Value, to guarantee work aimed at preserving the environment and the natural character of our wines. We grow our Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre on a soil composed of rolled pebbles, so typical of the region.
At the place called Poulvarels, we work on a gravelly soil the grape varieties that give all the fruit to our wines: Sauvignon, Cabernet and Merlot.
