Dourbie Estate
Dourbie Estate
Founded in 1781, Domaine de la Dourbie is located on the right bank of the Hérault River, at the foot of the Causse du Larzac plateau. The estate takes its name from the Dourbie, a local river that flows through the vineyard before joining the Hérault. This geographical location places the estate in a transitional context between Mediterranean influences and the cooler climates associated with higher altitudes.
The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2009 and is spread across two distinct areas. Approximately 20 hectares surround the main estate, while a second plot of about 12 hectares is located at nearly 300 meters altitude in the Rouveyrolles valley. This area, surrounded by garrigue scrubland, benefits from a more temperate microclimate, promoting gradual ripening and naturally cooler balances.
All work in the vineyard and the cellar is carried out entirely on site, with particular attention paid to manual harvesting and grape sorting. The winemaking process aims to preserve the identity of the two terroirs, seeking a clear expression of the fruit and a discernible expression of the soils, without resorting to artifice.
The wines of Domaine de la Dourbie reflect this dual heritage, combining the generosity of the Languedoc with a tension brought by the altitude and the diversity of the vineyards' exposures. The entire body of work offers a coherent and deeply rooted interpretation of the Hérault Valley, based on organic farming, masterful winemaking techniques, and the enhancement of complementary terroirs.
