Terre des Chardons
The Terre des Chardons estate was born from the Chardon family's deep attachment to a unique land, located in the commune of Bellegarde, shaped by the sun, wind, and stone. Established since 1983, the family initially developed market gardening and arboriculture activities there.
In 1999, Jérôme Chardon joined his parents and initiated a new direction by planting 9 hectares of vines. Convinced by a respectful approach to living organisms, he chose from the outset to cultivate the vineyard according to biodynamic principles, which were still uncommon at the time. The vineyard work is precise, attentive to natural rhythms, and guided by the lunar calendar.
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, in 10-kg crates, to preserve their integrity. They are then cooled before being brought into the winery, where they are carefully vinified. Fermentation occurs exclusively with native yeasts, revealing the distinctive character of the terroir and each vintage. The wines are then aged in tanks, in a constant quest for balance and purity.
The cellar, built before the first harvest, reflects the same high standards. Constructed using stone from the quarries of the Pont du Gard and natural materials such as lime, cork, and untreated wood, it provides a stable and healthy environment, ideal for aging wines. Drawing on traditional craftsmanship, it ensures consistent temperature and humidity levels throughout the year.
At Terre des Chardons, every decision—from the vineyard to the winery—is guided by a respect for the terroir, the seasons, and all living things. This artisanal and dedicated approach results in authentic wines that are deeply rooted in their place of origin.
